sacraments of initiation
baptism
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
Matthew 28:19
Baptism cleanses the soul of original sin, welcomes them into the Church and marks them as a child of God. Baptism is available at any age and anytime of year after preparation.
confirmation
"...In him you also, who have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and have believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit." Ephesians 1:13
Confirmation deepens the grace received at Baptism. It seals the individual with the Holy Spirit and strengthens their bond with the Church to boldly live out their faith. OCIA is available at all our parishes.
eucharist
"Jesus said to them, 'Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink." John 6:53-55
The source and summit of Catholic life. It involves the consecration of bread and wine into the actual Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, nourishing the faithful and uniting them with God and each other. Typically First Communion is made around the age of 7 (age of reason). If you have not prepared through OCIA or First Communion and are looking for more information, there are many resources available and we would be happy to talk with you and help you on your journey. If you or someone you know cannot celebrate the Mass with us because of illness, handicap or age, please contact the office.
sacraments of healing
reconciliation (confession)
"All of this is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation" 2 Corinthians 5:18
The process where a person confesses their sins to a priest and receives absolution. It reconciles the individual with God and the Church, healing the soul. Individual confessions are available 30 minutes before every Mass or by appointment.
anointing of the sick
"Is anyone among you sick? He should send for the presbyters of the Church so that they may pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of the faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed and sins, he will be forgiven." James 5:14-15
Offers spiritual and physical strength, peace, and forgiveness of sins to those who are dangerously ill, aging, or facing major medical procedures. This Sacrament is available after weekend Mass if requested. Please notify us of any hospitalizations so that we may be of assistance.
sacraments at the service of communion
matrimony
"For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the church." Ephesians 5:31-32
A lifelong, sacred covenant between a man and a woman. It unites the couple in a bond mirroring Christ's love for the Church and is aimed at the mutual sanctification of the spouses and the raising of children. Contact Father Louis at least six months prior to the marriage.
holy orders
"Do not neglect the gift you have, which was conferred on you through the prophetic word with the imposition of hands of the presbyterate." 1 Timothy 4:14
The Sacrament by which bishops, priests, and deacons are ordained to serve the Church, preach the Gospel, and shepherd the faithful.
